7 Myths About The VI Peel Debunked

7 Myths About The VI Peel Debunked

For many, hearing the words “chemical peel” immediately triggers a rush of panic and fear of blistered and burned skin.

Chemical peels have been performed for decades. Luckily, the procedures have evolved dramatically over the years, and are proven to be a safe, and highly effective treatment to reveal healthier, brighter skin.

The VI Peel was designed to correct signs of aging, acne and acne scarring, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation, and to stimulate collagen production for smooth, radiant, revitalized skin.

This medium depth chemical peel utilizes a synergistic blend of gentle, yet powerful ingredients that exfoliate the dermis, and reveal the smoother, brighter, healthy layers of the skin underneath - with minimal downtime and discomfort.

The VI peel has surged in popularity in the aesthetic and skincare industry, and is often praised as “the chemical peel designed for all ages and skin types.”

But, popularity breeds haters, misinformation, and myths.

We’re here to set the record straight about the VI Peel by debunking the myths surrounding one of our favorite treatments.

Myth #1: You can't get the VI Peel if you have cystic acne

False! The VI Peel is an excellent way to treat active acne and acne scarring, because it contains a powerful blend of ingredients that fight bacteria, congestion, and scarring.

The VI Peel formula also contains hydrocortisone - which is ideal for calming redness, and inflammation on the skin.

Even the most congested skin will benefit from the VI Peel.

Myth #2: You can't do peels in the summer

This is one of the most popular myths about chemical peels. It isn't true! Unlike laser treatments and IPL, the VI Peel does not stimulate melanin (pigment) production.

Instead, the VI Peel procedure triggers increased exfoliation and sloughing off old skin cells, and is followed by stimulated collagen production - which results in new cell regeneration and healing.

This means that as long as you follow sun protection guidelines, (like wearing a broad spectrum SPF of 30+) your skin recovery will not be affected, no matter the season.

Myth #3: The VI Peel will make your skin thinner

The VI Peel will not make your skin thinner.

The VI Peel resurfaces your skin and increases the turnover rate of the skin cells. This promotes the production of elastin and collagen - which actually improves the overall tone, texture, and clarity of your skin.

Myth #4: People with dry skin should not get a VI Peel

False! The VI Peel is an incredibly effective way to treat dry skin. The treatment is designed to remove dead skin cells, which allows for the restoration of the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

This will also improve the penetration of your moisturizers, serums, and other hydrating skin care products.

Myth #5: Using the Post Treatment Repair Cream will prevent peeling

This is not true. Your skin will peel whether you use the Post Treatment Repair Cream or not. However, the level of peeling may not be as visible when the skin is well lubricated and moisturized.

The Post Treatment Repair Cream helps with  dryness, irritation and it aids proper healing of the skin.

It may be more beneficial to anyone with darker skin tones, or prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Myth #6: You can't get the VI Peel because you have rosacea

Even if you have rosacea, your skin needs exfoliation. The VI Peel is safe and effective on all skin types and skin tones - including anyone that has rosacea.

But, it is important to take the following precautions:

  1. Avoid getting a VI Peel during a rosacea flare-up.
  2. Build up your skin's tolerance to the peel. This means that your provider will start slow, applying only a few layers of the formula during your first treatment, and adding more layers as you progress and get more peels.

At Flash Lab, our licensed estheticians will determine a personalized treatment plan based on your skin condition and tolerance, to ensure optimal results are achieved.

Myth #7: The VI Peel can't be used over facial hair or a beard

The VI Peel's blend of acids does not affect the natural keratin in our hair in any way! So, it is perfectly safe to be used over facial hair or beards.

In fact, the exfoliation of the VI Peel can help to keep the hair follicles free and clear of ingrown hairs, bacteria and debris.
